Plans for half a dozen new facilities in Hudson were advanced by the city last week.

Meeting May 24, the city Plan Commission recommended approval of final development plans for a second ice arena at the Hudson Sports & Civic Center, a 28,000-square-foot office, light-manufacturing and warehouse condominium and an M&I Bank office on Hanley Road.

The commission also recommended approval of preliminary plans for a 65,000-square-foot factory, a 12,000-square-foot gymnastics facility and an architectural office.

The groundbreaking for the $2.7-million ice arena is set for this month, Jay Kolls, president of the Hudson Hockey Association, said Tuesday.

Kolls said West Lake Builders of Hudson, headed by Randy Grekoff, is the general contractor for the project.

He reported that former NHL player and college coach Dean Talafous will lease 6,000 square feet of the arena for his Total Hockey school, which provides dry-landing training for young players.

Talafous, a former Minnesota North Star and head coach at UW-River Falls and Alaska-Anchorage, will be assisted by his son Pete, a Hudson High School grad and player for the Wisconsin Badgers, according to Kolls.

He said the hockey association has raised $750,000 for the project and expects to have $1 million in the building fund by fall. He said First National Bank of Hudson and Citizens State Bank are financing the remaining costs.

John Wold of the Stillwater, Minn., area is putting up the office, manufacturing and warehouse condominium in St. Croix Business Park. It will be located at 2001 O’Neil Road.

Community Development Director Dennis Darnold said it was his understanding that the building will have about 12 bays to be divided among businesses that purchase a share of it.

The M&I Bank branch is to be located on the south side of Hanley Road, a short distance west of Carmichael Road.

An Seaok and Hwichul Kim are planning construction of a new facility for their Hudson School of Gymnastics, which they opened in leased space in St. Croix Business Park in the fall of 2000.

Seaok and Kim are former members and coaches of the South Korean national gymnastics team. Seaok also has judged gymnastics competition at Olympic and World Championship games.

Their new gym is to be built at 2760 Enloe St. in St. Croix Business Park.

Bondpro Corp., an adhesives manufacturing company currently located in the town of Hudson, is planning construction of the 65,000-square-foot factory at 2701 Harvey St. in St. Croix Business Park.

Elliot Architects, now located at 108 Walnut St. in downtown Hudson, plans to relocate to a new building on a wedge of property between Coulee Road and I-94, below the 11th Street bridge over the freeway.
